New Sailor Moon Artbook – Coming Soon in 2013!

This past weekend was NYCC 2012 (New York Comic Con) and Kodansha had a panel with some very exciting news for us Moonies! They will be releasing a new Sailor Moon artbook in 2013!!

Quick facts about this new artbook:

  • includes popular images from Artbook I – V (released in Japan in the 90s)
  • includes several unpublished original drawings
  • will be released simultaneously in 7 countries (Japan, USA & 5 other unannounced)
  • paperback with dust jackets, full colour
  • each country’s release will have their own special bonus material

AHH!! I am so happy to hear this news!! I’m a little torn to hear that each country will have different bonus material. Does this mean I’ll have to buy all 7 books?! So far this is all the information that we have, no images or details on what the bonus material is. As soon as I know more, I’ll update you guys here! (Read Kodansha’s press release here.)

I remember getting into Sailor Moon back in grade 11. I hope Canada is one of the countries that gets this in the world wide release because I live here now.
I found an Original Japanese Art book back in my home town in 2001, but my mom would have freaked out if I bought it. NVM that I was an adult by then, 36$ for an art book with Japanese writing wouldn’t have passed. Besides, my ex probably would have kept it and I wouldn’t have it now.

I’m reading mine but I rellay disliked the treatment Mixx/Tokyopop had given the manga back when they released it. It’s also nice having the special editions, which I never would have taken the time to purchase in their original japanese since I couldn’t understand it :)My big hope is that they will release translated versions of the artbooks as well. Even back when Tokyopop was releasing other popular series they were translating the artbooks (mostly CLAMP titles). Del-Ray released the Tsubasa artbook and I believe it sold well. After these record breaking Sailor Moon/Sailor V book sales, I hope they find a way to release the art books in English. I would buy them, no matter the price tag!
