Merchandise Release

NEW Sailor Moon Neo-Queen Serenity Crown Ring & Senshi Earrings

Premium Bandai announced more Sailor Moon jewelry today, this time Neo-Queen Serenity makes a rare appearance with her crown! The ring is called “Serenity Crystal Tiara”, made of 925 silver with 18k gold coating. The crystal is by Swarovski. Retail price: 15,120yen. Next item is a set of senshi symbol earrings, there are 5 earrings total, each one is a different planetary symbol: Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter & Venus. You can get them in pierced and non-pierced versions. These are made in tin alloy but also has 18k gold coating. The crystals are also by Swarovski. Retail price: 12,960yen.

Both items are set for release in April 2014. If you live in Japan you can preorder directly from Premium Bandai. If you live outside Japan, you’ll need to use a deputy service: step by step guide. Remember the sizes listed on PBandai are Japanese, here is an easy size converter for reference!

EDIT: They initially mixed up the Mercury & Venus crystal colours on the earrings but have since fixed it. Second picture shows the correct colours.

I keep trying to push the step by step link and it comes up with the page not found. Is there another way to get the ring since the step by step link isn’t working?

Where can we buy the ring if we are from Australia? I have read that we can order some of the sailor moon items through a deputy but I have never done it before. Can you put a step by step guide with pictures for those of us who are confused by Japanese?

Tin? Tin?! How can they charge that much for gold-plated TIN?! >:( Silver is nearly 10 times the market price of tin yet Bandai sold the sterling silver and gold-plated sterling silver SM jewelry at only a third more! There’s a reason tin isn’t usually used in jewelry: it’s a pain in the ass to work with and it’s not really worth much in the first place.

Now I’d be tempted to buy the Venus earrings at that price if they were actually made of quality material (like sterling with gold-plate). I might even be tempted to pay for tin with a brass coating and a cz at $25. But tin with gold? Uh-uh.

This is the worst of the jewelry prices Bandai has given us and I’ve worked too long in the jewelry industry to be oblivious to such an insult. Swarovski crystals do NOT cost much, a sterling silver item with gold plating should always cost more than the same item without because gold is 40-50 times more expensive, and there are way better ways to design some of these pieces (like Neptune’s mirror and Uranus’s sword are just stupidly designed in terms of what can be done with jewelry).

Bandai is playing us for suckers. I’m sticking to the action figures, maybe the Venus ZERO figure, and hopefully the one piece of “quality” SM jewelry, the sterling star necklace, that I should receive in a couple more weeks (and then I’ll know if the quality was really worth the $200 price tag). But man, I feel used and abused as a Sailormoon fan right now…

I was super excited to see these, but, being a Sailor Mercury girl, all the enthusiasm died upon seeing the stone color mix-up…
